We have been moving at a pace that is slow but steady toward our dream of building a whimsical holiday theme park on our 7 acre old abandoned dairy farm. As we work out materials and actionable steps we also work out what our intentions are. And as we look at inspiration we see this & that that we want to incorporate. We observe typical fall/Halloween/Christmas events and attractions and we sometimes see what we don’t want to be as well. Very soon we hope to share clearly and visually what you might expect at Frost Hollow Farm, our backyard theme park. For now let’s use some vocabulary to try and illustrate what we are determined to create.
We intend to achieve a whimsical immersion into a hand crafted fantastical, artistic world. Beginning with an old world/Dickensian downtown full of alluring alleyways with attention to architecture and artfully imaginative shops, decorated to the nines with festive delights. we wil create handmade life size characters with depth and personality “running shops”or “peddling their wares” in the street. Some characters are serious, some silly. Some animatronic, some stationary. And just by looking, anyone can see that each character has a magical story to tell.
Bakery shops filled to the brim with delicious seasonal themed treats. some fantastic snacks that have “come alive” with imagination, hand sculpted and on display , and even more real and edible treats wafting their tantalizing aromas through the streets, calling the passersby to come and indulge in their bounty of pumpkin, cinnamon, clove and all the seasonal spices! Yum!
Around the bend from the downtown area is a tiny rural village with rolling hills and tall grass, a pumpkin patch where some of the pumpkins seem to come alive and donned a top hat with the intention to stroll the town. Here also resides the miniature frog village complete with hand made frog characters and their handcrafted colorful homes, each frog out for a stroll running errands and going about their little froggy lives.
Turn around another corner from downtown and you’ll find an open area tucked in between buildings, complete with a weeping willow sitting at the bank of a dark black pond. Beautiful but haunting sounds of an old banjo echo around, and some say an old rocking chair seems to be rocking all by itself; what else is to be discovered in this quiet ghostly part of town? no worries though all the resident spooks are friendly here. Wait! Is there something in the dark water? Only time will tell.
Down through another alley and across the field is the Witch’s Woods where you are, of course, very likely to run into a witch or two, or quite a few. Some spooky, some sweet but all family friendly wholesome spooky, no horror witches here! Each artfully crafted witch with their own unique charm and personality expressed further in their own matching cottages.
Watch out! if you take a wrong turn you may end up lost in the woods and “never return!” There are rumors and secrets whispered about the Witch’s Woods, rumors of lost locomotives, hidden rivers, and sunken ghost ships! Who knows if the rumors are true, one Can only hope!
As the seasons change from fall to winter the decorations and themes at Frost Hollow Farm change too.while the magic and whimsy stay ever present, some spooky elements turn joyfully jolly as we celebrate the arrival of Christmas! Some spooks stay as the ghosts that haunted old Ebeneezer Scrooge will be there as well as a walkthrough of his journey to finding that he too would honor Christmas and try to keep it all the year. A Life size nativity will also be added at the beginning of the walkthrough of the life of Jesus Christ! The shops will be filled with joy and excitement and delicious foods that always help make the season bright.
Whether it be during the celebration of autumn’s wholesome melancholy and spooky excitement, or the joyful and triumphant celebrations of Christmas and winter, the downtown will always be filled with music! Old world inspired music, sometimes whimsical, sometimes ambient and spooky. Sometimes live music like New Orleans jazz bands or madrigal bell choirs playing! Whatever it is you’re doing at Frost Hollow Farm, beautiful music will be there creating a full and complete otherworldly experience.
It’s slow going but progress is progress and we're so excited to be making progress!! While we cannot move as fast as dreams are imagined, which is frustrating at times, we can still move and we’re grateful!
What a whirlwind these past few months have been. All of a sudden we started talking about Frost Hollow Farm in a much more tangible way, and nearer in the future than we ever did before. In July, or maybe August, I (Lorajean) started to re-open our Etsy shop, because I already had some Halloween sculptures ready, but even then I wasn't thinking about Frost Hollow Farm the attraction. I was designing our website and buying the domain because that's a domain we knew we wanted. All along I was focusing on our sculptures. Then something changed and the Frost Hollow Farm theme park isn't just a dream that we’ll end up doing as grandparents, it's very real and already in the making!
Trent has been acquiring materials little by little over the summer for the distant inevitability of this and other dream projects, but at the beginning of August something clicked and we began speeding up the collection of materials. Lumber, pond liner, more and more lumber. We’ve been finding some amazing deals on some things, for which we’re grateful. But materials in this quantity get expensive so we’re also looking for multiple avenues to earn some extra money to spend on all the needed building materials. One of these ideas was to sell our papier-mache (and now also fiberglass; see below) sculptures at the pumpkin festival, another idea was to sell merch like t-shirts and mugs we design, and one more idea was to teach art classes. Even though our studio isn’t as large (or as clean) as we’d like, Trent is currently taking students, and slots are pretty open right now so reach out if interested. Oh and here's a link to our etsy shop while I’m at it. LINK :) We are incredibly grateful to all of you for any kind of support! Even watching our social media posts boosts the algorithm and gets more eyes on what we're doing, So, thanks :)
We talked to the building inspector in our area about permits, and to be sure the type of buildings we’re trying to build are allowed in our area, and they are!!! He also said we don’t need any type of permit at all to fix up our old outbuildings. Seriously cool you guys!! We feel so blessed to be able to move forward with this part so smoothly!!
Trent has been pioneering his first ever fiberglass project. He's working on a giant pumpkin. Lots of spray foam, fast setting cement/wall putty and the fiberglass and resin. Lots of learning curves and possible “failures” are involved but it was either jump in or forever wait til we “know everything”.
I sketched out a witch I want to create for the park; her name is Wilhelmina Wimperstump. Since she is crouched over I am finding it difficult to figure out her armature, so that project is still in sketch form for now. But I have been working on some vintage inspired lanterns in preparation for the “giant pumpkin festival” we will be vending at in Logan on the 28th.
A little progress is still progress and guys, We're making progress!!!
Thanks again everyone, till next time.

Welcome foolish mortals to our first blog post! We love to create, and we're so excited to create a new world over here at Frost Hollow Farm! For real, we hope to build an attraction of sorts on our property. Join us from the ground up as we move from the dream stage to actually making physical progress. As far as our art goes we love to create with papier-mache, but in the backyard were building a Halloween village square. With an apothecary, a broom shop, a malt shop run by an adorable zombie, hopefully the right vibe is coming off. We love Halloween but not blood, gore and horror/demonic stuff. Think Main street Disneyland/Diagonally. An immersive wholesome Halloween themed old world European town decked out with pumpkins and stocked with strange and curious, Halloweeny and whimsical items. Eventually we want to make each shop have fun and spooky interactive details and even animatronics in the long run. We're building this all on our own from scratch and plan to upload pictures of our ideas and also make blogs and YouTube videos showing what we're working on as we go along. Be sure to subscribe to the newsletter to keep up to date with all the things like new YouTube videos, blog posts and shop updates.
